Addis in Cape

This is an Ethiopian Restaurant, it is very authentic.

It is located on the corner of church street and long street. It is very large restaurant with three stories. Very interesting decor. You sit on short version of a  bar stool with a back rest around a small table that actually turns into a big plate for your food, the presentation is great, with a very authentic feel. It is a very different eating experience and I definitely recommend it.

They have a large menu catering both to non-vegetarians, vegetarians and vegans. So this is a huge plus. Their vegan and vegetarian menu is basically a variety of different vegetables with Ethiopian spices and sauces. We had four different veggie dishes they were: Butternut Wot
Cubes of butternut sautéed with onions and garlic and cooked with Berbere, Defin Misir Alicha Wot
Whole brown lentils sautéed with  onions for a  wholesome  vegetarian  meal, Mushrooms Wot
An Addis in Cape specialty, mushrooms simmered in a Berbere sauce is a rarity in everyday Ethiopian cooking and finally the Misir Wot Split red lentils sautéed with onions and garlic slow-cooked with Berbere. 

You do not use a knife and fork, this is not how they eat in Ethiopia.

You use Injera which is layered with a pancake-like sourdough base, this was the only slightly unhealthy part of the meal its was a white dough. Trying to always eat as healthy as possible, I tried not to worry to much about this, you had to use this Injera to scoop your food up and eat, so you land up eating quite a bit of Injera, but now I am just nit picking!

Portion sizes were average, the Injera really fills you up. Average price was about R75.

I give this restaurant 4 stars, it has a great ambiance as well as a great menu. The service was good, servers were all Ethiopian adding the authentic feel.  If they had whole wheat Injera 5 stars it would be !!!

They also offer a great traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, which looked very interesting and fun to do with friends.
