SIGG is a brand of optimism and hope, of forward thinking and positive action.

  • We make bottles to the highest standards of Swiss quality and craftsmanship.
  • We make bottles that are ecologically sound, reusable and ultimately, easily recycled.
  • We make bottles that are as fashionable as they are functional.
  • The future we see is green and clean, sleek and stylish.

Frustration ?

16 May

I am not sure if the correct word is frustration but that is all I can think of right now to describe the way I am feeling.

Firstly I would like to say that I admire people that hold to their beliefs in regard to what this website is about and all beliefs that are almost one can say against the grain of modern thinking. Because you sometimes start to think you are a little crazy or delusional, no one seems to agree with you, or no one really cares enough to do anything or make the smallest effort! I just find it hard to understand.

According to the UN department on environmental diversity, the earth is at a ‘tipping point’ where if nothing is done NOW there is going to be irreversible damage to the earth.

Three potential tipping points were identified by the UN department of Biodiversity:

Global climate, regional rainfall and loss of plant and animal species were harmed by continued deforestation of the Amazon rainforest, the report said.

Many freshwater lakes and rivers were becoming contaminated by algae, starving them of oxygen and killing off fish, affecting local livelihoods and recreation for local populations.

And coral reefs were collapsing due to the combined blow of more acid and warming oceans, as well as overfishing, the UN found, (Sourced from Yahoo news).

They say the extinction rate is up a 1,000 times.  Countries were given targets to meet in order to stop this damaging effect and according Djoghlaf who is the executive secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, “There is not a single country in the world that has achieved these targets, we continue to lose biodiversity at unprecedented rate.” I just do not get this, how can not one country bother to meet such vital goals, it just goes to show that all the matters is profits, does not matter what the consequences are or what the natural costs are.

The worst part about this is that we vote these individuals into power and stand by and not do anything about it. I know for a fact there are other people out there that are just as frustrated about this, but it comes down to knowledge, awareness and education to understand this dilemma, and even people with this knowledge a lot of the time do not really care. The problem is that public pressure rarely does anything anymore and you cannot get close to these politicians because they are so heavily guarded and if you try get close or people riot the just use the countries armies or police forces to hold you off.

How come it takes private organization like (Sea Shepard) to stop the destruction of the ocean for example shark fining, which is just such an inhumane thing do to, let a lone the detrimental effects it has on the oceans ecosystem. No government comes to their side saying we are with you on this and lets finance and help you in anyway possible. A lot of the times they get arrested by the local authorities and let the fisherman go. This is just ludicrous, just goes to show how much profits matter.

UN Environment Programme (UNEP) director general Achim Steiner, made such a great statement: “Humanity has fabricated the illusion that somehow we can get by without biodiversity or that it is somehow peripheral to the contemporary world,”

I do not understand never mind individuals but governments can just stand by and not take action, our plant is on the verge of irreversible damage which is having catastrophic  consequences and it is private organizations like the Sea Shepard that have to step in to try do something, because our governments are to slack and focused on profits versus the well being of our planet. How can people in power be so careless and heartless, how do these people get into power! I know a lot of governments are run by corporations and therefore they put these politicians into power and in turn have to follow their laws, but surely these people have some morals and values, at least you would think.

We have such an amazing planet, with such amazing resources and potential and this is where we find ourselves so many thousands of years later on the verge of irreversible damage to what could be flourishing and thriving world for everyone, yet we have nations who are riddled with war, disease, famine and a whole lot more and we have nations that spends billions on weapons and military R&D, and what ever else and no one is willing to step in and see that money is spent in a manner that can help benefit the entire population and planet. I just do not see what governments are here for anymore, they are just a bunch of corporations looking to take over control of the earth in what ever means possible for the highest profits possible with no regard to the consequences we all have to deal with.

This is what the United Nations defines human development as:

Human development is about much more than the rise or fall of national incomes. It is about creating an environment in which people can develop their full potential and lead productive, creative lives in accord with their needs and interests. People are the real wealth of nations. Development is thus about expanding the choices people have to lead lives that they value. And it is thus about much more than economic growth, which is only a means—if a very important one—of enlarging people’s choices. This does not seem at all close to what governments are trying to create, in fact it seems like the opposite, governments want the mass population to be as powerless as possible so they can impose control and power to do what it takes to create profits.

I could go on for pages and pages highlighting certain scenarios and current affairs that are going on in the world that are not at the forefront of the media or the government’s agenda but are so vital to our existence on this planet, I do not see what would be more important, but I guess money rules and until we change this system and actually have people running the world that care about the overall well being on the world’s population and and the well being of the earth itself, we just heading down a one way slide.

I said in the beginning that frustrating is not the word and it really is not, frustrating is when you crash your car, or jump into the swimming pool with your cell phone, watching your planet plummet in to disaster at the hands of such a small percentage of people which are controlling the outcome for such a large percentage of people that inhabit this plant is far far beyond frustrating, I do not know a word to describe it. If you can think of one please feel free to comment.
